A Shower or Bath: Which is Better for Your Bathroom Remodeling Project in California?

A Shower or Bath: Which is Better for Your Bathroom Remodeling Project in California?

There are many questions you will need to answer when you decide to remodel your bathroom, but one of the most hotly debated questions is this: if you only have room for one, should you install a shower or a bath? Of course, much of the answer to this question comes down to your preferences but there are other factors in place. Keep reading to learn what they are.

Space is One of the Main Considerations

One of the most important things to factor in is how much space you have. While many people assume that showers are smaller, the truth is that they actually take up more space when it comes to cubic meters. That said, the space they take up is largely vertical, which means that in small bathrooms, they can still be the right choice.

On the other hand, bathtubs can actually be found in a wide range of shapes and sizes, so you can generally find one that will fit into even the strangest of areas. For example, your tub could be installed so that it is essentially “built into” the wall – which saves a lot of space.

Consider the End-User

It is essential that you really think about who the actual user of the shower/bath will be and what will work best for them. Older folks and those with mobility issues will almost always prefer a walk-in shower to a bath. Today’s showers also have non-slip surfaces, are available with grab bars, and can include a bench or seat. These can be built seamlessly so there is no “lip” to step over or trip over.

That said, this option is not a great one for families with small children. When they are young, children cannot bathe alone and it is much easier (in most cases) to bathe a child in a bathtub compared to bathing them in a shower.

Your Preferences

Many people find that showers are more appealing because they tend to look more modern. However, a bathtub can be a conversation piece, depending on which one you choose. While showers might seem sleeker and cooler, bathtubs are much more likely to be associated with luxury and pampering, depending on your preferences.
