Do You Believe Any of These 5 Myths About Designing a New Kitchen or Bathroom?

Whether you’re excited about designing your perfect kitchen and bathroom, or you’re nervous about the entire experience, it’s important to stay informed. At Mission West Kitchen & Bath, we’ve worked hard to offer you all the materials you need in a single store. We’ve also been in this business long enough to know some of the most common myths that people believe. Read on to learn about them – and the truth – and then reach out to us at (626) 799-3503 or stop by our showroom.

  1. Myth: I must stay involved in every aspect of the remodel
  2. If you hire professionals to take care of your remodeling job then you should trust them to do just that. Choose a company that you believe listens to your wants and has planned a room that meets your needs. Then step back and let them do what they need to do. Trying to micromanage will only slow the process down.

  3. Myth: Form is more important than function
  4. We know you want a kitchen or bathroom that’s beautiful – and you should have it. That said, ensuring that it functions the way you need to is more important. For example, if you want a minimalist kitchen so you decide to keep your kitchen cabinets to a minimum, where are you going to put your dishes? What will you do without that extra space? It doesn’t do any good if you love the way it looks but it doesn’t serve a purpose.

  5. Myth: Remodeling doesn’t change the value of a home
  6. This is just flat-out false. In fact, if you’re going to remodel two rooms in your home and you want them to be the ones that will add the most value to your home then the kitchen and bathroom are the rooms to choose. You can expect that the more extensive the remodels are, the more it will add to the value of your home.

  7. Myth: There are great cheap products out there
  8. Don’t mistake cheap and affordable. Yes, you can find affordable bathroom sinks but this doesn’t mean they’re cheap. It means they’re high quality yet more affordable than other options. Buying quality products will ensure they last longer, look better, work better, and add more value to your home.

  9. Myth: I can’t afford to remodel my kitchen or bathroom
  10. It’s true that remodeling a bathroom or kitchen is going to cost more than buying a new couch. However, remember that remodeling a kitchen or bathroom is going to make it much more useful and pleasant to be in. Keep in mind as well that your kitchen makes up between 11 – 18% of the value of your home while the master bath makes up 8 – 14%. Investing in some of the most important rooms in your house can be well worth it.
