Learn How to Choose the Right Appliances for Your Kitchen

Appliances are one of the most important aspects of your kitchen yet many homeowners don’t know exactly what they should be looking for as they shop for them. Today we are going to go over some of the biggest appliances and what you should be looking for when shopping for them. Once you know what you are looking for, reach out to Mission West Kitchen & Bath at (626) 799-3503 or stop by our showroom to see some truly unique kitchen appliances and more.

Choosing the right cooktop

There are three main options for your cooktop: Gas, electric, or induction. There is no right answer – it is all personal – but keep in mind that it is not often you hear about a person who has a gas stove choosing to change it to an electric stove. If you cook often, think of efficiency. How much heat can you accept losing from the burner to the pan? If you choose gas you will lose about 40% but a flat induction cooktop results in the least amount of lost heat. It also brings a pot of water to boil faster than a gas stove – and certainly faster than an electric stove.

Choosing the right oven

If you want a truly high-performing oven then you want a convection oven, which works by circulating heat with a fan. It cooks food faster and more evenly. However, if you are a baker then you are likely to want the traditional oven type, though you may want a stacked or side by side option. We can go over the options and help you find the perfect choice for your needs.

Choosing the right refrigerator and freezer

There are three main issues to consider when choosing a fridge and freezer: Space, features, and budget. A freestanding model is going to slide into a space and stick out about six inches past counter depth. As far as quality goes, you can expect that the compressor is going to impact the performance. A single-compressor unit must work double time compared to a dual-compressor unit. It will cost more to get a dual-compressor option but it will keep food fresh longer and it can be more energy efficient.

There are also many styles available, such as French doors in which the fridge is on top and freezer drawer is on bottom, or the side-by-side options. The most expensive – but often ideal – choice is to have separate fridge and freezer units.
