Which Kitchen Countertop Material is Best for Your Particular Project? Get Help from the Professionals

There are so many reasons to consider growing your own kitchen garden. They’re very fun, they don’t require a lot of space or work, and they can help make your kitchen look beautiful. If you are considering making a kitchen garden part of your remodeling project, check out some tips below. Remember that Mission West Kitchen & Bath is here to help you however we can.

Planning is the Most Important Step

Before you start planting, it is important to have a detailed plan about what you want and how you’re going to get it. Do you want plants you can eat? Herbs to spice up dishes? Think about the makeup of your kitchen. For example, your kitchen island countertop might be the perfect place, but does it get enough light? If you have a window sill that would work, do you have enough room for what you want? Get a good plan together before you start working.

Timing Matters

You might think that because your garden is growing side, the time of year is not important. Unfortunately, it does not work that way unless you want to buy grow lighting. Remember that your indoor lighting helps set the mood and gives you task lighting, but it is not the same as UV light and it does not grow plants.

To determine the right time to plant, look up your area’s climatic zone. Once you know what it is, you can find many different online resources that will give you planting calendars for various different plants.

Make Sure You Have the Right Tools

The good news is that kitchen gardening does not require an entire shed of farm tools. In fact, getting a few quality tools in this instance is much better than getting many poor-quality tools. You will generally need a good garden trowel, a watering can, planting containers, and seedling trays. You will then somewhere to put the plants, such as in pots, containers, or planters. Choose these based on how well they drain, how porous they are, and their weight.

How to Get Started

Once you have it all in place, you can find your seeds. There are many places to buy them: from shops, online, farmer’s stores, or taking them directly out of your own foods, such as tomatoes or chilies. You could also choose to start with a seedling, which you would get from your commercial nursery. When you are planting, make sure you leave enough space between each plant (the specific amount of room required will vary by plant, but one inch is generally a good guide) and that you are marking where you are putting everything.
